Peru's solar energy sector has reached a major milestone, with installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity officially surpassing wind power capacity for the first time. The development marks an important step in the country's renewable energy transition and highlights the growing competitiveness of solar power in the Latin American market.
According to the latest industry statistics, Peru's installed solar capacity has reached 1,127 MW, exceeding the country's wind power capacity of 1,021 MW. Although thermal power generation (7,070 MW) and hydropower (5,359 MW) continue to dominate the national electricity mix, renewable energy is gaining momentum as new projects move forward and investment in clean energy continues to increase.
The growth of Peru's solar sector is expected to accelerate further in 2026. Several large-scale photovoltaic projects are scheduled to enter operation, including Sol de Verano I (45.3 MW), San José (155.7 MW), Illa Phase I (121.8 MW), and Wayra Solar (94.22 MW). Once commissioned, these projects will significantly increase solar generation capacity and further strengthen the role of PV energy within the country's power system.
At the same time, Kallpa Generación, Peru's largest power generation company and a subsidiary of Inkia Energy, is expanding its presence in the renewable energy sector. The company currently operates approximately 2.6 GW of installed capacity, primarily from natural gas and hydropower assets. To support its clean energy strategy, Kallpa has secured temporary land-use permits for the 400 MW Tanaka Wind Project and the 234 MW La Salinas II Solar Project, while also receiving grid connection approval for the 306 MW Pacífico Wind Project. These developments demonstrate the increasing confidence of major energy companies in Peru's renewable energy market.
Growing Demand for Solar Mounting Solutions
As Peru continues to diversify its energy mix and expand solar deployment, demand for reliable and cost-effective solar mounting systems is expected to grow steadily. Utility-scale solar projects, commercial and industrial rooftop installations, and emerging distributed generation applications will require mounting structures capable of withstanding diverse environmental conditions while ensuring long-term performance and system reliability.
