Philippines installed 122MW of solar in 2015 2016-03-18

The Philippines installed a total of 122MW of grid-connected solar PV in 2015, taking its tally to 144MW, up from 22MW the previous year, according to the latest figures from the Philippines Department of Energy (DOE).

As of 31 December 2015, there were 124 grid-connected projects in the pipeline that had been awarded under the country's renewable energy (RE) law, totalling 4,016MW. Meanwhile, there were 13 self-consumption projects totalling 2.4MW also awarded. Total self-consumption capacity stands at 1.9MW.

Furthermore, the DOE had a total of 59 projects pending under the RE law with a combined capacity of 1,456MW.

Earlier this year, Josefin Berg, senior solar analyst at market research firm, IHS, said the Philippines developed very quickly in 2015 after clarifying its feed-in tariff scheme and putting in a deadline for installations by March 2016.
