Weight matters more than you think.

Aluminum is about 1/3 the weight of steel. That means lower shipping costs for export projects, easier handling on site, and less heavy equipment needed. For long-distance logistics, this adds up faster than people expect.

Coastal projects are driving the demand.

A waterproof solar carport can be built with steel. But near the coast, aluminum simply lasts longer without rust issues. Steel can work with hot-dip galvanizing, but once the coating is damaged, corrosion creeps in. Aluminum doesn't have that problem.

Total cost of ownership is the real question.

An aluminum carport structure may cost more upfront, but it holds up longer with less maintenance. If your client is holding the asset long-term, the math changes.
And yes, the look matters.

Carports are visible. Clients see them every day. Aluminum canopy with anodized finish keeps its look. Steel can show wear over time.

Aluminum is not always the answer. But for coastal, weight-sensitive, or long-term projects, it's a conversation worth having.
