FGM-Fabral, a Texas-based metal framing material manufacturer, has announced the launch of Fabral Solar, marking its official entry into the rapidly growing photovoltaic market. The new unit will supply high-end steel solar mounting structures and provide complete solutions for solar module installation.

According to co-founder John Cummings, Fabral Solar aims to become a one-stop supplier of solar mounting solutions. It will leverage its parent company’s experience in metal roofing systems and the resource advantages of its owner, Flack Global Metals (FGM), to work directly with EPC contractors and solar mounting manufacturers in building a stable supply chain.

Fabral Solar will also offer customized Fabral steel products to meet the design and installation needs of various PV projects. The company has launched pre-assembled components and parts suitable for building rooftops, carports, canopies, and ground-mounted solar farms.

Additionally, the company plans to install solar systems on existing buildings and properties, while expanding into commercial, residential, agricultural and other emerging markets. Prior to FGM-Fabral’s entry into the solar sector, the U.S. government announced a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum products effective March 12, 2025. Even before the new tariffs were implemented, the U.S. solar industry had already begun promoting a domestic steel supply chain to reduce reliance on overseas sources.

In line with this trend, multiple solar tracker manufacturers have partnered with local steel suppliers to comply with tax incentive policies under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including FTC Solar and Nextracker.

Meanwhile, PV module manufacturer First Solar has also partnered with Terrasmart to adopt its steel mounting solutions, ensuring that its Series 7 TR1 modules become part of a fully domestically produced ground-mount solution in the U.S. market. Recently, Origami Solar established a steel solar frame factory in Arkansas, aiming to reduce overseas supply chain risks and provide reliable material support for domestic projects.
